Keynote Speaker - Roylene Rides at the Door
Signatures on the Land
Roylene Rides at the Door is the Washington State Conservationist for the
National Resources Conservation Service and is passionate about educating
the public about their crucial role in developing a sustainable
relationship with their environment. Growing up on her Blackfeet Nation
family ranch in Montana began her cultural values of caring for the land,
and she has carried those values throughout her varied career in upholding
the nation's legacy of conservation.
Rides at the Door has served 22 years with the National Resources
Conservation Service, including three years as state conservationist in
Rhode Island; assistant state conservationist for field operations in
Oklahoma; and as the American Indian liaison in Arizona. After graduating
from Montana State University in 1991, she worked as a soil conservationist
and district conservationist in various locations in Montana.
Rides at the Door was born and raised on the Blackfeet Nation in Montana.
"I grew up on my family's ranch and feel especially connected – through my
culture – to caring for the land," she said. " I look forward to sharing my
story, and talking about the new tools that are available to help sustain
the legacy of conservation you have at Ebey's Reserve – for generations to
come."
